Petition: https://eci.ec.europa.eu/066/public/#...Europe's new Kids Act promises to protect children online, but its fine print treats every user like a kid until they show ID.
Europe’s plan to protect children online may end up making the internet less safe for everyone. The EU’s own age-verification app was reportedly cracked in under two minutes, the day after it launched, and Australia’s experience suggests age bans leak too: more than 8 in 10 under-16s were still on social media three months after the ban took effect. All this, while also placing a massive privacy risk on hundreds of millions of EU Citizens, who are now forced to upload ID just to use the internet like they do today.
On this Episode, We'll Cover:
- Why the EU is suddenly racing to regulate kids online, from Australia's social media ban to France's under-15 law
- What the EU KIDS Act actually changes: autoplay, streaks, notifications, AI chatbots and loot-box-style rewards
- The "kids' aisle" problem: why Article 8 treats every adult as a minor until age verification
- The privacy risk: how the EU age verification app was bypassed twice, and what the Discord ID leak tells us
- Why social media bans don't work, and what Australia's experiment really shows
